Photography has been a big part of my life for over 40 years and it’s really lovely to be able to weave it into Flowing Through The Year each month to inspire you to bring photography into your life too.
You might just want to take a few photographs with your smartphone or do an in-depth creative project with your dSLR…or something in between.
In the Northern Hemisphere, July is a month bursting with colour, long, light evenings and when the sun is out, strong sunshine. All these things offer magic for your photography if you know how to make the best of them.
Time of Day - I will probably say this every month but the time of day you take your photographs is really important in the Summer months. Unfortunately on a sunny day you have to be ready nice and early and then be patient and wait until the late afternoon and early evening to take your photographs. If you are going on holiday this month, this is so worth thinking about. You will get the best images if you stick to this. The light will be beautiful and you will capture the magic of July in your photographs. We are already passed the longest day, so each week that goes by now will give you a little more photography time.
If I want to take my best pictures on sunny days in July I will take them before 10am, the earlier the better, and after 4pm, and later if I can. Experiment with different times and if you are too busy with other things to take photographs, just try to notice the light as you walk around outside or look out your window. The more you pay attention to the light, the better your photography will become.
